A Sneak Peek into Chopta-Tungnath
Chopta, a small region of meadows and evergreen forests, is an unspoiled natural destination in the Rudraprayag district. Often called the 'Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand', Chopta sits at an altitude of 2,680 meters and serves as the base for the trek to Tungnath (the highest Shiva temple in the world at 3,680 meters) and Chandrashila peak (4,000 meters). The 3.5 km trek from Chopta to Tungnath passes through beautiful rhododendron forests and alpine meadows. From Chandrashila summit, you get 360-degree panoramic views of Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Peak, and Chaukhamba. This is one of the most rewarding short treks in India.
